Step by step: your clay whale
1. Make a big oval
Roll a ball of clay. Gently stretch it into a fat oval. This is the whale body.
2. Shape the head and tail
Keep the head wide and round. Lift the other end into an upward tail. Pinch it into a V shape.
3. Add the belly line
Press a soft curve along the underside. Smooth it with a damp finger.
4. Add the fins
Cut two small fins from a flat slice of clay. Score the body. Add a drop of water. Press the fins on.
5. Make the spout
Roll a tiny coil. Curl the top into a little fountain. Attach it to the top of the head.
6. Dry, paint and seal
Dry for 24 hours. Paint it deep teal with a cream belly. Add two small dots for eyes. Seal when dry.
