A penguin in the desert sounds funny. That is the fun of it. Here is how to make a clay penguin figurine at home, even if you have never touched clay.

The penguin is a gift of a shape. It is a plump oval with a belly and two flippers. Kids love it. Adults love it too.

Why a family craft matters here

Many UAE families spend weekends indoors. It is hot. Outdoor plans are limited for months. Parents search for ideas that are calm, creative and screen free.

Craft stores sell parts, but not a plan. You end up with half a project and a messy table. Clay can feel risky if you think it needs baking.

A penguin is a smart pick. It uses simple shapes. It is cute when finished. And it makes everyone feel like an artist.

Sawa makes it simple

Our kit contains air-dry clay. It sets on its own at room temperature. No kiln. No oven. No wheel.

The box has clay, tools, paint and a clear guide. Delivery is free across the UAE.

  • Solo Kit, AED 198. One person.

Step by step: your clay penguin

1. Form the body

Roll a ball. Stretch it into a tall egg. Press the base flat so it stands.

2. Mark the belly

Press a soft oval onto the front. This will be the white belly when painted.

3. Add the flippers

Flatten two small teardrops. Score the sides of the body. Add a drop of water. Press the flippers on.

4. Make the beak and feet

Pinch a small triangle for the beak. Shape two flat feet from tiny balls. Attach them at the base.

5. Add the eyes

Press in two small dots high on the face. Keep them wide apart for a friendly look.

6. Dry, paint and seal

Dry for 24 hours. Paint the back deep teal. Keep the belly cream. Use terracotta for the beak and feet. Seal when dry.

Where your penguin lives

Your penguin is decor only. It looks lovely on a kids' shelf. Place it near a candle. Set it on the entry table with your keys. A small group of penguins looks great on a mantle.

Want more animals for the family? Try a clay frog figurine with kids, a clay hedgehog figurine or a clay falcon figurine.

The experience

Everyone sits at the same table. The room gets quiet. Little hands roll and press. Big hands help.

Each person ends up with their own penguin. No two look the same. That is the point.
