Ready to learn how to make a clay octopus figurine at home? It is one of the most fun shapes to build. Eight curly arms. A big round head. A cheeky face. Kids and adults both love it.
You do not need a kiln or a wheel. Just a box of air-dry clay and a free evening.

Why an octopus is a great clay project
An octopus is mostly rolling. You roll a ball. You roll eight little snakes. You curl them. That is it. There are no tiny joints and no thin legs to snap.
It is also a good fit for the UAE. We live by the sea. Gulf waters are full of sea life, and many families love ocean themes. An octopus looks right in a boy's room, a girl's room or a living room shelf.
Hot afternoons make indoor projects a smart choice. An octopus keeps small hands busy for a long time, because there are eight arms to decorate.
How Sawa solves it
Sawa puts everything in one box. You get air-dry clay that sets at room temperature. No firing. No wheel. You also get tools, paints and a simple guide.

Step by step: your clay octopus
1. Shape the head
Roll a smooth ball of clay. Make it a little taller than wide. Flatten the bottom slightly so it sits steady.
2. Roll eight arms
Make eight snakes. Taper each one to a point. Keep them the same thickness near the top. They should be about as long as your finger.
3. Attach the arms
Score the underside of the head. Score the top of each arm. Add a drop of water. Press the arms around the base, then blend each seam.
4. Curl the arms
Curl each arm into a spiral or a wave. Make each one different. This gives the octopus its playful look.
5. Add the face
Press in two big round eyes. Add a small smile with a tool. Add tiny dots on the head for texture.
6. Dry, paint and seal
Dry for about 24 hours. Paint it teal, coral or cherry red. Add cream spots on the arms. Seal once dry.
Where to display your octopus
Your octopus is decor only. It looks great on a shelf. Place it next to a candle. Set it near your keys or prayer beads. A small one can sit by a bukhoor burner as a cheerful touch.
More ocean makes to try: a clay seahorse figurine, a clay fish figurine and a clay turtle figurine.
The experience
Rolling clay is soothing. The arms are repetitive in a good way. Your hands find a rhythm. Your mind slows down.
Painting is the playful part. Try stripes, dots or swirls. No two octopuses match.
It works as a family night too. Let each person make one, then line them up and pick a favourite.
Common questions
Will the arms fall off?
Not if you score, wet and blend each join. Dry the octopus slowly and the arms hold.
Is it good for kids?
Yes. The shapes are simple and safe. Kids enjoy rolling the arms. An adult should help with the sealing step.
Can I use it as a dish?
No. Pieces are decor only. Use them for shelf decor, candles, bukhoor or keys.
Is delivery free?
Yes. Delivery is free across the UAE.
