How to Make a Clay Dinosaur Figurine with Kids (UAE Guide)

Playful illustration for how to make a clay dinosaur figurine with kids, pink and teal print style

Every child goes through a dinosaur phase. Yours probably has one now. So here is how to make a clay dinosaur figurine together, at home, with no mess to clean up afterwards.

It is a simple air dry clay project. No wheel. No kiln. Kids can shape the body, pinch the spikes, and paint it any colour they like. A Sawa Group Kit has enough clay for up to four people. It costs AED 288 with free delivery across the UAE.

Why This Works for UAE Families

Weekends in the UAE can be long. Summer is hot. Malls get crowded. Parents look for something calm that keeps little hands busy. A dinosaur is perfect because kids already love the idea. They do not need convincing.

It also keeps screens off. Everyone sits at the same table. Everyone makes something. Brothers, sisters, cousins, and parents all join in. At the end, each person has a dinosaur of their own to display.

What You Need

The Sawa Group Kit includes air dry clay, wooden tools, paint, brushes, and sealant for up to four people. You only need water and a table you do not mind getting a little clay on.

Step by Step: Building the Dinosaur

Step 1: Shape the body

Roll a ball of clay the size of a small orange. Squash it gently into an oval. This is the body. Kids can press it into a bean shape for a rounder dinosaur.

Step 2: Add the neck and head

Roll a thinner sausage. Attach it to one end of the body for a long neck. Pinch the tip into a small head. For a T-Rex style, keep the neck short and the head big.

Step 3: Make the tail

Roll another sausage with a pointed end. Attach it to the back of the body. Smooth the join with a wet finger. Always score both pieces first. Our guide on how to join air dry clay pieces shows how.

Step 4: Add legs and spikes

Roll four short, thick legs. Press them under the body. Then roll tiny triangles and press a row down the back. These are the spikes. Kids love this part.

Step 5: Add the face

Press two small dots for eyes. Use a wooden tool to draw a smile. Add two little nostrils. Every dinosaur gets its own personality here.

Step 6: Dry, paint, seal

Let the dinosaur dry for one to two days in a cool spot. Then paint it. Green is classic. Teal, orange, and pink are more fun. Finish with sealant. Our guide to how to colour air dry clay has easy colour tips.

What You Get at the End

A shelf full of handmade dinosaurs. Each one is different. Kids carry them around, name them, and show them to visitors. They are decor pieces, made to sit on a shelf or desk.
