How to Make Clay Evil Eye Wall Decor at Home (UAE Guide)

The evil eye is one of the most loved charms in the Middle East. You see it on doors, keys and walls. Now you can make your own.

This guide shows you how to make clay evil eye wall decor at home. It is a simple project with a beautiful result. No wheel. No kiln.

Why make an evil eye for your wall

A handmade evil eye feels personal. Shop versions are all the same. Yours has your colours, your size and your touch.

It also makes a thoughtful gift. Think of a new home, a new baby or a housewarming. A hand-painted charm carries good wishes.

In the UAE, evil eye decor is everywhere. Hang one by the entrance. Place one in a hallway. Add a small one to a shelf of keepsakes.

How to make your clay evil eye, step by step

1. Roll and flatten

Roll a ball of clay about the size of a lemon. Press it flat with your palm. Aim for a thickness of about one centimetre.

2. Cut the shape

Use a round lid or cutter. Press down to cut a clean circle. Smooth the edge with a damp finger.

3. Add the layers

The classic eye has rings. Roll a smaller flat circle and press it on top. Add an even smaller one on that. Finish with a tiny centre dot.

4. Make a hanging hole

Use a straw or a thin tool. Press a small hole near the top edge. This is where your string will go.

5. Dry flat

Place the piece on a clean board. Let it dry for one to two days. Flip it halfway through so it stays flat and does not curl.

6. Paint the eye

Paint the outer ring deep blue. Paint the next ring white. Add light blue, then a black centre. Gold or cream around the edge looks lovely.

7. Seal and hang

Brush on a layer of varnish. Let it dry. Thread a cord or ribbon through the hole. Hang it on your wall.

What you get from the experience

This is a gentle, meditative project. You repeat circles and focus on colour. It is easy to relax into.

Your finished piece is decor only. Hang it on a wall. Rest a smaller one on a shelf. Pair it with a candle, a tray of keys or a bukhoor burner.
