Horses are part of UAE heritage. They stand for grace, speed and pride. Now you can make one yourself.
This guide shows you how to make a clay horse figurine at home. No wheel. No kiln. Just clay, your hands and a free evening.
Why a clay horse is worth making
The Arabian horse is a proud symbol across the Gulf. A small clay version looks elegant on any shelf. It suits modern homes and traditional majlis corners alike.
A horse is also a great shape-building lesson. You practise long curves, balanced legs and a flowing neck. These skills carry over to every other figurine you make later.
In the UAE, many of us spend weekends indoors. The heat and the traffic push us home. A clay project turns that time into something you can keep.

How to make your clay horse, step by step
1. Form the body
Roll a smooth oval of clay about the length of your hand. This is the body. Keep it firm and even.
2. Shape the neck and head
Pinch one end upward into a thick neck. Gently curve it. Shape the tip into a long, narrow head. Pinch two small points for the ears.
3. Add the legs
Legs are the hardest part. Roll four thin logs. Make them slightly thicker at the top. Attach them under the body. Blend each join with a little water.
Tip: let the legs stand slightly apart. This gives your horse balance.
4. Make the mane and tail
Roll thin strands of clay. Press them along the neck for the mane. Add a longer bunch at the back for the tail. Use a tool to mark fine lines in each strand.
5. Add the face details
Press in two small dents for the eyes. Add two tiny nostrils with the tip of a tool. Keep the details simple.
6. Dry, paint and seal
Let the horse dry for one to two days. Turn it gently so it dries evenly. Paint it chestnut, cream or deep black. Add a gold line on the mane for a royal touch. Finish with varnish.
What the experience feels like
This is slow, calm work. You focus on one curve at a time. The hour passes quickly. Many people tell us it feels like a reset.
Your finished horse is decor only. Display it on a shelf. Set it beside a candle. Place it near a bukhoor burner, a tray of keys or a string of prayer beads.

Your questions answered
Is a horse too hard for a beginner?
It is a little trickier than a round shape. But thicker legs and a short neck make it easy. The guide in your box helps at every step.
Will the legs snap?
Not if you blend the joins well. Use a little water and press firmly. Thicker legs are stronger.
Do I need a kiln?
No. Sawa clay is air-dry. It hardens at room temperature in your home.
Is delivery free?
Yes. Every Sawa kit ships free across the UAE.
