How to Make a Clay Cat Figurine at Home (UAE Guide)

You want to know how to make a clay cat figurine at home. Maybe you love cats. Maybe you miss one. Maybe you just want a small project for a quiet night. Good news. A clay cat is one of the friendliest shapes to learn.

It is round. It is forgiving. And it looks charming even when it is a little wonky.

Why a cat is the perfect first figurine

Many people think pottery is hard. They picture a spinning wheel, a hot kiln and a long class. In the UAE, that feels even further away. Studios can be far. Slots fill up. Weekends are short.

A cat figurine skips all of that. The body is a simple egg. The head is a ball. The ears are two small triangles. You can build it with your hands at your own table.

It also suits our climate. Indoor hobbies matter when afternoons are hot. A small clay project fills an evening and gives you something real to keep.

How Sawa solves it

Sawa sends you everything in one box. You get air-dry clay that hardens at room temperature. No wheel. No kiln. No oven. You also get tools, paints and a clear guide.

Delivery is free across the UAE. Pick the kit that fits your night.

Step by step: your clay cat

1. Shape the body

Take a palm sized piece of clay. Roll it into an egg. Stand it upright on the table. Press the base flat so it sits steady.

2. Add the head

Roll a smaller ball. Score the top of the body with a tool. Add a drop of water to both surfaces. Press the head on and smooth the seam with your thumb.

3. Make the ears

Pinch two small triangles. Press a tiny dent into each ear. Score, wet and attach them to the top of the head.

4. Build the tail

Roll a thin snake of clay. Curl it around the base of the body. Blend the join so it does not lift as it dries.

5. Add the face

Press two small dots for eyes. Add a tiny triangle nose. Use a tool to draw whiskers on each cheek.

6. Dry, paint and seal

Let the cat dry for about 24 hours. Paint it cream, warm orange or deep teal. Add a cherry red collar if you like. Seal it once the paint is dry.

Where to display your cat

Your cat is decor only. It looks lovely on a bookshelf. Place it beside a candle. Rest it near your keys or prayer beads. Set it next to a bukhoor burner as a small, cosy guardian.

The experience

Opening the box feels like a small gift. The clay is soft and cool. You start rolling and your shoulders drop. The room goes quiet.

Each cat comes out different. One has a long tail. One has a round, sleepy face. That is the charm. It is handmade, and it is yours.

You can also make it a shared night. Pair up, make two cats and compare. Or let the kids shape their own and paint them together.
