Step by step: your clay crab
1. Shape the body
Roll a ball. Press it gently into a wide, flat dome. This is the shell.
2. Add the legs
Roll six thin coils. Bend each one into a small angle. Tuck three under each side of the shell.
3. Make the claws
Roll two thicker coils for arms. Make two small balls for the claws. Cut a notch in each ball to make a pinch shape. Attach them to the front.
4. Add the eyes
Roll two tiny stalks. Top each with a small ball. Press them onto the front of the shell.
5. Score and join
Every joint needs a light scratch and a drop of water. This keeps the pieces from falling off as they dry.
6. Dry and paint
Let it dry for 24 hours. Paint it cherry red and terracotta. Add cream spots. Seal when dry.
Where it belongs in your home
Your crab is decor only. It looks great on a bookshelf. Put it beside a candle. Keep it by your keys on the console table. Place it near your prayer beads or bukhoor burner as a playful touch.
